Historical Background

Mathioya Technical and Vocational College is located in Kamacharia Location, Kamacharia Division, Mathioya sub-county, Murang’a County. It started in 2014 on a land donated by the local community for the purpose. The foundation stone was laid by the Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto (Deputy President of the republic of Kenya) on 2nd October, 2014. The construction of the Institute buildings started on 25th November, 2014 and by 2017 the building had been completed. The College was officially registered by TVETA on 25th April, 2017 and admitted the first batch of students in January 2018.

Governance Structure

MTVC is a National Public Tertiary Institution under the Ministry of Education, it operates under the Education Act 213 and TVET Act 2013 Laws of Kenya. The College’s operations are also carried out in accordance with the Government policies and procedures as spelt out in official documents and circulars. The College operates under the management of the Board of Governors appointed by the Minister in charge of Education. The Principal is the institute’s CEO and the secretary to the BOG. On the day-to-day operations of the college, the Principal is assisted by the Deputy Principal, the Registrar, the Dean of Students and Heads of Departments. The students participate in College’s governance through a student’s association led by an elected student council.

The college has currently Six Academic Departments: Business Studies; Automotive Engineering; Electrical and Electronics, Civil Engineering (Plumbing), ICT and cosmetology. The non-academic departments/Sections include: Examinations, Industrial Attachment, Finance, Procurement, Human Resource, Sports and Games.
